Clan Morrison Honored at the Kansas City Games
Annual General Meeting to be held at the Kansas City Highland Games on June 13, 14 and 15, 2008.
Clan Morrison, which originated on the Isle of Lewis in the Outer Hebrides, is 700 members strong throughout the United States and Canada. Eons ago the Morrisons of Lewis established a fortress named Dun Eisten on the northern tip of the island. They gave rise to ten generations of heredity brieves (experts in law) which held sway over the outer Hebridean Island until 1613. Their influence waned under political pressure, and they eventually vanished from the pages of history.
The Clan Morrison Society of North America, founded in Scotland in 1909, was granted its own coat of arms by the Lord Lyon, King of Arms. Today, there are Clan Morrison societies scattered world-wide. Related family names are Gilmore, Brieve, and MacBrieve. Their badge is a sword emerging from a fortress turret at Ness, ancient home of the Morrisons on Lewis. To find out more about Clan Morrison, go to their website at www.clanmorrison.net.
